Shah Jahan Mosque — Vision 2032
Your questions answered
Alhamdulillah, we have agreed the key points for purchasing additional land beside the mosque, alongside better access from the neighbouring retail park at some of our busiest times. These create important opportunities to improve the site for our community and future generations.
It is our vision for protecting our historic mosque while strengthening its role as a place of worship, learning and community. It includes better facilities, stronger services for children, young people and families, and a welcoming environment for worshippers and visitors. Faith and worship remain at its heart.
The proposals include improved prayer and learning spaces, a Heritage Centre and Café, calmer gardens, additional parking and safer access. The aim is to make the whole site work better, while preserving the historic mosque and its character.
Not yet. We have agreed the key points of the proposed purchase, but the remaining approvals, legal arrangements and funding still need to be completed.
Alhamdulillah, £250,000 has already been raised. We now need a further £350,000 to secure the land and cover associated planning and legal costs.
The negotiated land price is £540,000. The neighbouring developer is also contributing towards creating the car park.
No. This appeal supports the land purchase and the preparatory work needed to move forward. The wider masterplan will require further funding and will be delivered in stages.
The boards show our long-term vision and concept designs. Detailed designs, costs and the delivery programme still need to be developed, with permissions obtained where required. Vision 2032 sets our direction; the timing of each stage will depend on funding and the work needed to deliver it.
The new car park will follow the land purchase and the necessary planning and construction arrangements. Access from the retail park is a separate arrangement for some busy periods. We will explain when and how it can be used; please continue using the current arrangements until then.
Maintaining worship and the mosque’s activities will be an important part of planning the works. As each stage develops, we will explain any temporary arrangements and give advance notice of changes.
The trustees have been working through negotiations and developing proposals so there is something concrete to share. We have now reached a point where we can explain the opportunity, show the wider vision and discuss the journey ahead with the community.
Yes. Please look at the boards and website, speak with the trustees, and share your questions, views and offers of help. We will explain what has been agreed and what still needs to be developed.
CIO stands for Charitable Incorporated Organisation. We have completed the move to this charity structure to support the mosque’s governance for the future. Our purpose remains serving the mosque and its community.
Delivering the vision will require dedicated time and skills alongside the substantial contribution our staff, Imams and volunteers already make. This includes coordinating the building plans, supporting services and volunteers, fundraising and strengthening the everyday running of the mosque.
We intend to recruit additional support to help deliver the vision. The proposed approach is open recruitment, with applicants assessed against the requirements of the role. We will share the details once the arrangements are approved. We are not announcing an individual appointment at this stage.
The proposed additional role is intended to support our existing team and help deliver the work ahead. It is not a proposal to replace the Imams or existing staff. The Imam will continue to lead worship, religious guidance and teaching, and trustees will remain responsible for the mosque’s direction and oversight.
Please follow the mosque’s official announcements and website. If you hear something elsewhere and are unsure whether it is accurate, please ask us directly before sharing it.
Please make du‘a, contribute to the appeal if you can, and share the mosque’s official updates. We also welcome offers of time, skills and practical support—please speak with a trustee.
