Dear Community Members,
As-Salaam-Alaikum,
It has been almost two years since we began efforts to improve the governance structure of our historical Mosque. Despite the slow progress due to various legal challenges, we are pleased to share that we are now on the right path.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated volunteers and professionals who have supported us throughout this journey. We also appreciate the unwavering support of the Pakistani High Commissioner and their staff, whose commitment has been invaluable.
Key Updates
- New Constitution and Registered Charity. We are pleased to announce that the Mosque now operates under a new constitution and is registered as a charity with the Charities Commission. This step was essential to align with current legal requirements and resolve any confusion caused by previously used names. Restructured Charity is:-
SHAH JAHAN MOSQUE WOKING Registered Charity No: 1207685
We are now moving to the next stage of this process: appointing additional local trustees. If you are interested, the trustee application pack is available for download via the link at the bottom of this page. These have been approved by the trustees and the Chairman. Becoming a trustee is a significant responsibility, requiring patience, understanding, and dedication.
All applications will be treated with strict confidentiality in accordance with data protection laws. The trustees at the Pakistani High Commission will review, shortlist, and approve the applications with the Board of Trustees. The deadline for applications is the 14th of January 2025.
Activity Management at the Mosque
The Mosque management is solely responsible for all activities at the Mosque. Unauthorised use of the Mosque premises, including conducting business, cooking or selling goods, abandoning vehicles, or disposing of household items, is strictly prohibited.
Anyone engaging in unauthorised activities or using past practices as justification will not be tolerated. Such actions can negatively impact our charity status and must cease immediately. We request the community to refrain from encouraging any individual involved in these practices.
All religious events, including festivals, gatherings, Zikr, Gayarveen or any gathering must be organised in collaboration with Mosque management. We appreciate the efforts of responsible groups and volunteers who help make these activities possible.
Improvement Projects
Washrooms and Wudu Areas: Renovations are underway for the masjid’s washrooms and wudu areas to ensure comfort and accessibility for everyone. Temporary improvements have been made, but long-term renovations will require closing certain facilities. Your support is essential to complete these projects.
Garden Project:
Our heartfelt thanks to the Maybury Support Group and a generous well-wisher who donated plants. Additional costs were covered by anonymous donors. Volunteers meet on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and anyone interested in joining this wonderful team is welcome.
Funeral and Ghusl Room Improvements:
Mohammad Adeel is leading the effort to establish a purpose-built Ghusl (dead body ghusl) facility that meets legal and environmental health standards. The upgraded facility will include lifting equipment and proper disinfection protocols to ensure safety and hygiene.
Dedicated Family Room (Purri Room):
To address the need for additional space during bereavements, a new family room is under construction in Hall 4. This project is nearing completion and will provide a more comfortable environment for grieving families in case of a death.
Community Involvement and Transparency:
We encourage everyone to support these initiatives through financial contributions, volunteering, or participating in our fundraising events. Every effort helps preserve and enhance our historical Mosque.
To keep the community informed, we will post monthly updates on our website and notice boards. Transparency is a priority, and we welcome your feedback and suggestions.
A Call for Unity
Let us come together as a united community to cherish and maintain Shah Jahan Mosque. With your continued support and cooperation, we can ensure that this Mosque serves future generations with dignity and grace.
Thank you for your unwavering dedication. May Allah (SWT) reward our collective efforts and bless our beloved Mosque.
WalaikumSalaam,
The Shah Jahan Mosque Management
